Program Description

Statistics Department Seal

The B.S. in Actuarial Science is a specialized degree intended for students interested in a career as an actuary. Actuaries analyze the financial consequences of risk; they use mathematics, statistics, and economics to study uncertain future events. Actuaries specialize in the evaluation of risk and as such are a vital part of the insurance and financial industries. This degree is particularly suited for you if you have good math skills and are business-oriented, self-

motivated, enjoy analyzing problems, and think of exams as challenges rather than ordeals. As a student in the Actuarial Science program, you’ll receive a high level of training in statistics, mathematics, economics, and actuarial science. You’ll also receive strong support within the Department from the Actuarial Association, which helps you prepare for professional societies’ actuary exams.
