Program Description
As a B.M. Music Performance major in one of 14 instruments or voice, you’ll have one-to-one individual instruction throughout your studies from our stellar faculty who are all practicing instrumental soloists, opera singers, orchestral players, and master teachers on the world's stages. You’ll get experience in class performances, chamber music concerts, large ensembles such as chamber choir, chamber orchestra, wind ensemble, brass choir, new music ensemble, and the annual opera production. Your classes in music history, music theory, and analysis will be with distinguished academic professors who are all renowned scholars leading graduate doctoral programs. You’ll have access to our outstanding music library with its musical scores, books, and recordings. In your junior and senior years, you’ll give a public recital in one of our three fine concert halls, exposing you to the challenges and excitement of a soloist and providing you with a foundation for teaching your instrument and for graduate study. Masterclasses by touring international artists performing in Santa Barbara are regular occurrences, as are visits by distinguished composers.
