Program Description
As a Sociology major, you’ll gain a diverse perspective on the ways in which social relations and forces shape individuals and institutions. We offer courses in core areas of Sociology including Culture, Gender & Sexualities, Race & Ethnicity, and Social Interaction. The requirements for the major are designed to provide you with a thorough grounding in the theory and methodology of the discipline and prepare you to engage in empirical inquiry. In addition to providing the basis of a liberal arts education, the Sociology major can prepare you for graduate study to become a professional sociologist or for a career in such fields as law, management, urban and environmental planning, criminal justice, journalism, teaching, social work, and other service professions.
